Training component


Five-day practice-based international training conference for the multidisciplinary teams in the Pediatric Oncology Center of University Children’s Hospital in Krakow, Poland was conducted between May 14-18, 2010. The program initially trained 48 health and social care providers from around the region over five days on the essentials of pediatric cancer care and treatment, including the principles of case management.


The training was conducted by international and national trainers (Program International and Local Consultants) representing current knowledge and best practices in childhood cancers. The program focused on practical aspects of case management with 20% theoretical, 60% practical applications case studies and project work, and 20% on the training methodology to enable the participants to roll out the training to their colleagues in their institutions. Simultaneous translation was provided for participants. The detailed program for the course was developed by the Program’s International Consultants with input from the Key Experts in Poland and other participating countries. During the conference, the Key Faculty and Program Coordinators met with local media representatives to discuss program objectives and expected results in the CEE region.
